Abstract. The article presents a comparative characteristic of two epistemological approaches that are potentially applicable in the cognitive and certifying activities of official authorized participants in criminal proceedings. As a conclusion, it is stated that the detected qualitative differences in the disclosed approaches form the theoretical basis of the doctrinal discussion about establishing the truth in the course of criminal proceedings.
