Abstract. Based on a comprehensive analysis, the phenomenon of a serviceman’s family as a subject of sociological research is studied. It is substantiated that families of servicemen represent small social groups of the population, characterized, on the one hand, by consanguineous and/or marital relations, the presence of a common life and intra-economic practices and connections, mutual economic, social, legal responsibility, on the other hand, by a number of special social aspects reflecting the specifics of the service and labor military professional activity of subjects. It is substantiated that in the families of servicemen, the leading role, regardless of gender, is assigned to the serviceman in view of the peculiarities and specifics of his state military service. Making key decisions and resolving emerging problems is assigned to the serviceman, the second spouse takes care of all the daily and household chores. In these families, there is a strict division of responsibilities and roles.
