Abstract. The article is devoted to the development of the theory of small arms shooting training in the Russian army in the period from the beginning of the 18th to the end of the 19th century. The article considers the main issues of military didactics: what to teach and how to teach related to small arms shooting training as well as the changes in their content in the course of the small arms development and methods of their combat use improvement.
