Abstract. This article examines the concept of the phenomenon of leadership, reveals its essence and evaluates its key components based on the managerial aspect of its interaction. The concepts of «leader» and «management leader» are defined. These categories are evaluated, the key qualities and features peculiar to these concepts are highlighted. The data obtained as a result of a sociological study of the subjective assessments of the cadets of the military institute are analyzed. The authors conclude that during training at a military institute, leadership can be achieved as a real result of educational activities. It is the ultimate goal that allows the cadets to meet the requirements of a future post, taking into account the characteristics of the military team.
