Abstract. The article is devoted to the theoretical analysis of the “professional motivation” category, the substantiation of motivation as a form of professional potential as well as an element of the service-occupational abilities that determine the processes inducing military personnel to active military-professional service-occupational activities. It is proven that professional motivation is a complex sociological category that has a dual manifestation. The first manifestation is as a system of external stimulating influence upon subjects of military service. The second is as an internal set of personal professional motivation of military personnel, the form of their professional potential.
