Abstract. The article considers the principles, approaches, objectives and tasks of the cadets’ professional and business qualities forming in the process of training at the Military institute of the National Guard Troops of the Russian Federation. The author analyzes two main approaches and principles of the cadets’ professional and business qualities forming used in the educational process at the military institute. Three interdependent structural components are identified based on the approaches analysis: cognitive, operational activity, motivational value. Such kinds of competencies as communicative, social, strategic, object, professional are revealed. These competencies facilitate the development of the deeper cadets’ knowledge in the learning process at the military institute and form professionally significant qualities and characteristics of an officer.  The conclusion about the special status and character of the academic activity organization in forming the cadets’ professional and business qualities of an officer can be made based on the analysis component data contents.
