\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tAbstract. <\/i><\/b>This work is devoted to the analysis of the goals and functions of punishment in modern criminal law of the Russian Federation. The concept of criminal punishment, the main goals, objectives and ways of implementation are considered. In modern criminal law, the purposes of punishment can be different, and they can be based on different theories. In general, the goals of punishment can be divided into preventive, reparative, rehabilitative and educational. Each of these goals has its own characteristics, basis and ways of implementation, which are conditional by the specific conditions and tasks of modern society. The methodological basis of the work was the method of historical analysis, methods of analysis and synthesis of information, as well as normative legal acts regulating the institution of punishment in criminal law. General methods such as generalization, comparison and description were also used, which made it possible to explore in more detail the modern purposes and functions within modern criminal law. After carrying out a logical analysis, the main conclusions of the studied object were reflected. An analysis of punishment within the framework of criminal law is carried out. The purposes of punishment are highlighted. The functions of punishment within the framework of criminal law are studied. The relationship between the tasks and purposes of criminal sanctions in modern criminal legislation is proved. In the course of the study, sanctions are dual in nature. On the one hand, their task is to punish citizens in order to suppress any offenses, on the other hand \u2013 sanctions are a mechanism to protect citizens, their rights and interests. Punishments must also combine a whole range of criteria; they must not only be punishment, but also carry a corrective and educational function for those convicted.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
